My Thoughts on Percy Jackson
Hi everyone,
For this blog post I'm going to be giving a review on the Percy Jackson series by Rick Riordan. This is a pretty popular series, so many of you guys may have read some or all of the books before, but for those who haven't, I'm going to be giving my thoughts on why you should read this series.
Rick Riordan's Percy Jackson is a YA series based on Greek mythology, and it tells the story of a demigod boy named, you guessed it, Percy Jackson. He discovers that he is the son of Poseidon in the first book, and is sent by his mom to a demigod summer camp called Camp Half-Blood. There, he is forced by a prophecy to go on a quest to save the world. The other 4 books also have some variation of this plot.
The first reason why you should read this series is that it's just fun to read. I remember especially liking the funny, sarcastic narration of Percy as he goes through all of the events in the books, and I remember that even the chapter titles were funny. It's a very easy series to get into for this reason, and I haven't met anyone who dislikes the way it's written.
I also like the mythology aspect too, as it's not very often that I've seen books that incorporate mythology into the story. I think Riordan did a great job with researching Greek myths, adapting them and making them easy to understand for the average reader. The mythology really makes the book more interesting by adding a new layer to the world-building in my opinion.
I'd especially recommend this series to you if you have read the Harry Potter series before and liked them, as Percy Jackson is really similar. They're both YA novels that talk about a kid who discovers his magical abilities, and they follow the protagonist throughout their teenage years. And if you finish the Percy Jackson series and want to read more, I'd also recommend checking out the Heroes of Olympus series, also by Rick Riordan.
Skip the movies though, they suck.
Thanks for reading! -Jayden
Nice post! I really like the mythology in these books, what's your favorite?
ReplyDeleteHi Jayden! I really liked your blog, and I remember reading Percy Jackson when I was around 10 years old and I really enjoyed the series! Have you watched the new series on the book featuring Walker Scobell. I thought it was meh, and wasn't able to fully the essence of the books, just as most book to movie adaptations are.
ReplyDeleteNice post Jayden! I read this book one time, but didn't enjoy it as much as you. Based on the way you talk about it, it may not be how I remember it. I'll make sure to read it again!
ReplyDeleteGreat post! I read Percy Jackson in middle school and really enjoyed it. Like you mentioned, I really like how the mythology is incorporated into the story. You mentioned Hero's of Olympus, but have you read any of Rick Riordans other mythology based stories like Magnus Chase or Trials of Apollo?
ReplyDeleteI really love this book because it is a childhood classic. I personally still think the first one is the best. I might even revisit it!
ReplyDeleteHey Jayden! I absolutely love Harry Potter, but actually haven't ever read Percy Jackson, but I've heard a lot about it. This seems like a really entertaining series, so I'll have to check it out. Nice post!
