My Thoughts on Percy Jackson

Hi everyone, For this blog post I'm going to be giving a review on the Percy Jackso n series by Rick Riordan. This is a pretty popular series, so many of you guys may have read some or all of the books before, but for those who haven't, I'm going to be giving my thoughts on why you should read this series. Rick Riordan's Percy Jackson is a YA series based on Greek mythology, and it tells the story of a demigod boy named, you guessed it, Percy Jackson. He discovers that he is the son of Poseidon in the first book, and is sent by his mom to a demigod summer camp called Camp Half-Blood. There, he is forced by a prophecy to go on a quest to save the world. The other 4 books also have some variation of this plot. The first reason why you should read this series is that it's just fun to read. I remember especially liking the funny, sarcastic narration of Percy as he goes through all of the events in the books, and I remember that even the chapter titles were funny. It...

King Crimson

Image
King Crimson is a band that I don’t listen to often but they have some great songs. King Crimson was an English rock band created in London in 1968. Their first album In the Court of the Crimson King is their most famous and best. Some people may know about 21st Century Schizoid Man because it was sampled by Kanye in his song Power. This album has great songs such as 21st Century Schizoid Man , Epitaph , and I Talk to the Wind. I am always amazed with their songs on how they can so few lyrics yet also manage to get out such a big message. 21st Century Schizoid Man 21st Century Schizoid Man is a song about a man coming back from the Vietnam War with schizoid personality disorder. The first lyrics are “Cat's foot, iron claw Neurosurgeons scream for more At paranoia's poison door.” The cat's foot iron claw lyrics resemble how before the war a cat's foot may have seemed cute or playful but when he returns all he can see is an iron claw, an instrument meant only for ha...

To Kill a Mockingbird: A Classic Novel Both Banned and Beloved

Hello! This is Quintus, and I wanted to tell you today about the novel  To Kill a Mockingbird . This novel is a classic, but is also known for being a commonly banned book. People commonly attack the book for its use of the n-word and other slurs. Despite this, though, the novel is quite well respected, and I find it to be wonderful.     The novel takes place in the fictional town of Maycomb, Alabama during the Great Depression, from the perspective of Scout, a young child who gets into a lot of trouble and is still learning a lot about the world, as one might expect of a child of a young age. She has an older brother named Jem, who begins quite mischievous, but grows to be more mature towards the end of the novel. Finally, Scout's father is Atticus Finch, a middle-aged lawyer who teaches his children many very important life lessons. The story is primarily about Atticus being charged with defending a black man named Tom Robinson, who was accused of ra...

A mini analysis on Little Women by Louisa May Alcott

I wrote my literary analysis essay on whether or not Purple Hibiscus is a feminist novel. But then I was thinking, what is? Given that feminism can be an entirely subjective subject, it's difficult to define feminism as a genre. But let's look at one of America's most beloved feminist novels, Little Women by Louisa May Alcott. If you don't know the basic plot of Little Women , it is about four sisters who live with their mother after their father goes off to war. Meg is the oldest, a very feminine character, with priorities in marriage and starting a family. Jo is the second eldest, and sort of the main character of the book. She is depicted as very tomboyish, and has no interest in marriage. Beth is the third eldest, and she is very quiet but enjoys music. Amy is the youngest, and is by far the most lively.  Little Women is often considered a feminist novel because it is not about men. It sheds light into the bustle of women i...
