The books are cooking; the best cookbooks in my kitchen:

I personally love to cook and bake. It's kind of all I do. If someone is sick, cookies. If someone dies, cookies. Birthday gift, cookies. Literally my solution to everything. I used to bake dinners for my family once or twice a week, but since the Uni homework load hates family bonding time I haven't been pulling weight… but I have experience at least!

Anyway, here are the best cookbooks, whether you've been baking your whole life or can barely make toast.

The Joy of Cooking:

This cookbook is HUGE. And I mean HUGE. From family dinners to gourmet meals, The Joy of Cooking has it in its 1,200 pages. The instructions are easy to follow, and it has a format that makes sense (It puts the ingredients down as they come in the recipe, so you don't have to flip back and forth.) It's a staple in my kitchen, but here are some of my favorite dishes:

  • Creme Brulee- A set custard with caramelized sugar on top. I usually infuse the milk with cardamom and saffron, or sometimes lavender.

  • Pavlova- it's just fruit and merengue. Like what about that could ever be bad??

Love Real Food:

I was vegetarian for a couple years as a kid, and my lovely mother bought this cookbook so we could have things to eat. It's full of dishes that are pretty simple and really tasty!

  • Beans and Greens Quesadillas- Sounds kind of nasty but it's actually really good! I ate it in my lunch like everyday. It's basically just quesadillas but it has beans (and kale/chards/whatever you have on hand) and its extra protein so you get strong.

  • West African Peanut Soup- It's a peanut stew, with a lot of sweet potatoes, tomatoes and chickpeas. It tastes very substantive and it's a super warm winter meal.

The Students Vegetarian Cookbook:

Another veggie one, but it's super easy to make and requires basically no equipment. Some of the dishes are a little special but they taste fine!

  • Quick Mexican mole- it's actually so easy and simple, and pretty delicious. It has a bunch of fresh veggies, and a really nice flavor.

I hope you liked the blog!

  2. I also enjoy cooking! The homework definitely reduces the amount of time we can use to cook various foods but it is still fun when we do get a chance to. :)

  4. Hey Olive! I love cooking too. It was a great idea to make a blog post on recipe books; you've definitely inspired me to do more cooking. I liked how you listed certain dishes from each book and gave them descriptions. Great post!

  5. Hi Olive! I don't cook that much, but I always love trying new things, and I've been wanting to make something for a while. I haven't actually made my own pavlova, but I think it tastes really good so I might just make one myself! Thank you for the inspiration!
